RESPONDING THE DRAFT CORE STRATEGY

Introduction

The original core strategy produced in 2009 has been subject to public consultation and as a result was changed and adapted to respond to the views and recommendations of local stakeholders, residents and pressure groups.

The newly revised Core Strategy (draft) is therefore being presented for further consultation so that it can move forward to the next stage.

This is a formal consultation which allows comments on the BANES Draft Core Strategy ( from different stakeholders: eg residents/action groups/businesspeople/ conservationists etc ) to be made to Banes and which will then be provided to the Examination in Public which is due to take place in August 2011 – the next step in formalising this strategy into 2026.

Where the Core Strategy has changed to reflect local concerns – eg it has taken out the proposed ‘urban extension’ to the SW of Bath, - this is a nevertheless an important moment to make a vital contribution to the adoption of the Core Strategy

This means writing or emailing your support of the current strategy – in particular to reinforce that you find ‘sound’ the plans to protect the green belt and prioritise brownfield development and that you approve of the scrapping of unrealistic housing targets and the unnecessary decimation of farmland for an urban extension.

What to do now

NOTE : All comments must be submitted to BANES by 3rd February 2011

Even though you may have already participated in the consultation last year , it is important to participate again in this consultation and reinforce and reiterate your comments and opinion – make a representation of your views! ( see how below)

For example, if you support the new draft core strategy because: it has listened to and taken into account the concerns and wishes of the public as expressed during the first consultation process ( Dec 2009- Feb 2010) and decided NOT to build on green belt but meet housing needs on brownfield development sites in Bath – then you should write and reinforce that you think the core strategy is sound because it has taken this approach.

If you need ideas about ways in which you can reinforce your opinions – see the NSL conservation groups response to the first core strategy in January 2010  at:  http://www.nslconservation.org/response.html

How to make a representation

There are two ways you can comment on the draft core strategy

You can fill in the representation form ( see how below) or you can write a letter ( see option b below)

a)   download the representation form on this site (Click this Link)

Complete the form and email it to

Planning_policy@bathnes.gov.uk

Or fill it in online at : www.bathnes.gov.uk/corestrategy

If you use the form – you can indicate in section 3 which part of the core strategy your comments refer to

NOTE : One form should be used for each ONE specific issue that you want to comment on from the core strategy document

You can call for advice on how to fill in the form on : 01225 477548

Or

b)   send a letter outlining your support for the draft core strategy /comments to BANES

NOTE : Banes WILL accept comments in a letter format – but they will then analyse which section of the draft core strategy your comments refer to and then allocate these comments for the inspector

This is a large document and the idea is to analyse comments specifically against each part of the Core Strategy. If you choose to write a letter with many points or comments then they will have to allocate each of your comment to the appropriate section of the strategy document.
